Spartan Living Defined

You might be wondering, what exactly does it mean to live a spartan lifestyle? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

"A spartan lifestyle is marked by strict self-discipline, simplicity, frugality, or the avoidance of luxury and comfort."

Ideally, one embracing such a lifestyle would most likely advocate a simpler, less consumer-driven lifestyle. More to come on this later...

I came across this cartoon the other day on CartoonChurch.com that I thought would be appropriate to kick things off with. Nothing better than a little profound humor.

One of the things I find interesting about this cartoon is that it begs the question: How far is too far when it comes to living a simple life? Is there a point at which the benefits of frugal living are outweighed by the means of doing so? And how does one strike a balance between the two?
